Forest Plan Database Exchange of Current Knowledge (FP_DECK)
SUMMARY: The Forest Plan Database Exchange of Current Knowledge (FP_DECK) is a web-based planning tool that electronically archives Forest Service Land and Resource Management Plans in a searchable database. FP_DECK compiles plans into a common location and provides land managers opportunity to view and search archived plans during new plan development and existing plan modification. Planners and managers can use FP_DECK to examine similar forest-based activities, explore specific forest characteristics and issues, and develop consistent templates that incorporate state, regional, and national knowledge and expertise. National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) coordinators can also efficiently evaluate the consistency of proposed actions and guide land managers through in-depth plan building. FP_DECK enhances and improves information exchange among land managers, promotes land management consistency throughout the National Forest System, and incorporates valuable institutional knowledge.
EFETAC'S ROLE: The Eastern Threat Center provides technical support and guidance as a co-developer of the tool.
PROGRESS: Eastern and Western Threat Center researchers are partnering with National Forest System planners and managers to address national, regional, and forest-level user groups. FP_DECK now includes plan directions for all national forests in both the eastern and western regions of the US. Monitoring plan information has also been incorporated into FP_DECK for all regions as well. With input from national forest staff members, FP_DECK development and quality control are ongoing.
