2008 Partnership Highlights
State Collaboration Highlights Buffer Effectiveness
The Eastern Forest Environmental Threat Assessment Center (EFETAC) and the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NC-DENR) are collaboratively assessing the impact of stream buffers on stream sedimentation and soil erosion across the Piedmont Region. EFETAC’s expertise—using ecosystem models, field experiments, and monitoring to assess forest management impacts on soil erosion and stream sedimentation—will greatly benefit the NC-DENR efforts to assess existing regulations for stream buffer widths across the region.
